Ancient Greece hydraulic telegraph 4th century BC

The earliest telegraph was developed in the 4th-century BC in Greece and described by Aeneas Tacticus writer. It employed levels of water as code in the sending and receiver devices with a hydraulic telegraphic method. The semaphoric information was received visually which limited its use to line-of-sight distances in good visibility weather conditions.
